Capacity building
Windpower Serengeti Ltd. offers trainings that we like to call a master-class because it involves both theoretical and practical work. Various options are available. However the minimum duration will be one week because we always like to finish and install the wind turbine(s) that has been produced by the participants.

A group size of about 12 to 18 participants can finish one wind turbine in one week of training. This includes enough theoretical background for everybody to understand what and why they are building. In the morning two hours of theory are presented in a class room. We experience that this is the maximum amount of theory somebody can handle. Thereafter this theory will be made active by practicing it during the rest of the day till evening. In one week we deal with wind turbine basics only and finish one turbine. In case of a two week training, we can handle more topics and raise the turbine multiple times so that all participants get experience in this. Three weeks will be a very intensive training in which people learn more advanced stuff. Then we finish two turbines. As a customer you should note that after such a master-class you are the owner of the wind turbine and will benefit from the electricity production for years to come.

Every training we have given in Tanzania, has a very positive and exciting moment when the participants raise their own build wind turbine. For a one week training this will be at the last day. For a two week training they will start the second week very motivated by the result of the first week. The more time available, the more parts can be build during the training. We have demonstrated in Tanzania that the whole turbine can be build up from scratch. So we will start with just raw materials like wood, metal, electrical components, etc. and convert this into a high-quality wind turbine.
Participants from previous trainings emphasize after wards that they experienced a very special training. Nobody is falling asleep in these trainings because we involve all participants and give them the right responsibilities. We discourage participants that show up only to cash their daily allowance, because they will find trouble with participants who go with the exciting flow of building a wind turbine :-).

Last but not least, one should understand that the Piggott-type of wind turbine that we build during the training is a very normal horizontal axis wind turbine. If you have hands-on experience with this type of small wind turbine, you also can understand other types (like the vertical axis turbines). Moreover, the combination of practical experience on a small turbine and theoretical experience on the whole range of wind turbines, will give the participants the best chance to work for companies that are going to install large wind farms in Tanzania in the near future.
